We are excited to offer a competition dance team again next season. First and foremost, we want you to understand that ALL of our KDC dancers are valued the same, and being a part of the competition team does not change that. The participating dancers in our competition dance team are seeking more of a challenge for themselves and simply want to compete with dance.

I also want to mention that the competition dance world can be a bit overwhelming and quite unfair sometimes. While we will follow all of the guidelines and rules given to us, unfortunately, there are others in the world that will not. We will be very selective with the competitions that we choose to go to and make sure they align with our core values here at KDC. Our costumes will continue to be modest and our music will be age appropriate. We will do our part in keeping costs down for you all, but this will be a time and financial commitment. We will offer fundraisers to help cover costs and we have done our best to provide a manageable schedule for everyone’s busy lives!

Competitions have different competition levels: recreational, intermediate, and advanced. These are based off of the total number of hours a dancer takes per week. We will LIKELY be competing in the recreational category due to our dance team weekly requirements.

 

Requirements of Dance Team Dancers:

1. All dancers are required to take a regular class for the 2026-2027 season to be a part of the dance team.

2. See below for Summer requirements. (Class and boot camp)

3. All dancers are required to attend the Audition Day on Wednesday, July 15 from 5-8pm.

4. All dancers are required to take the technique class for the 2026-2027 season. This class day/time will be announced when our fall enrollment opens on April 1.

5. All dancers will be required to attend the mandatory Dance Team Saturdays. These dates will be announced in April as well. Groups will meet for 1-1.5 hours to learn choreography, and practice their routines.

6. Dance team dancers will need to practice their choreography at home. There will be a weekly parent sign-off sheet that will be due at each Dance Team Saturday rehearsal to help keep you motivated to practice at home between classes.

7. Attend the two regional competitions we will be competing in in March and April of 2027.

8. Attendance is important. Excessive or unexcused absences are not allowed. Technique, confidence, and growth will only happen when everyone on the team is equally dedicated.

9. Have a good attitude. Always be kind and respectful to your peers and teachers.

10. Dress appropriately for class. Wear the correct shoes and keep your hair pulled back in class.

11. Signed contract from both parents and dancers agreeing to our dance team policies and rules. This will be due by June 2, 2026. 

12. Signed team commitment agreement after the audition day that will be due by July 18, 2026.

 

Summer requirement for ALL DANCE TEAM dancers ages 6-18:

If you are interested in participating in the Dance Team next year (2026-2027) you will be required to attend at least 4 of the 6 Technique and Conditioning classes this summer. This class will keep us moving over the summer and continue to strengthen our technique so we are stronger and ready for next season!

These classes will be held on Thursdays on the following dates: June 18, 25, July 2, 16, 23, 30. (No class the week of July 9th)

Ages 6-9 will have class from 6:30-7:30

Ages 9+ will have class from 7:30-8:30

This class is a punch card system. You may purchase a 4-class punch card for $75.00 or a 6-class punch card for $95.00. (Payment is due June 1)

In addition to the weekly class, dancers will also need to attend the 3-day Dance Team Intensive Camp. This will be held on June 2-4 from 6:00-7:30pm. The cost of this camp is $55.00 per dancer. This camp will have different classes nightly for the dancers to attend taught by KDC teachers and guest instructors. This will help prepare the dancers for the upcoming audition day and competition season.

 

DANCE TEAM AUDITION DAY:

All dance team dancers will be required to attend the Dance Team Audition day that will be held on Wednesday, July 17 from 5:00-8:00pm. The cost of this is $10.00 per dancer (no matter how many genres they audition for)

Dancers will audition for all genres they would like to compete with by learning a short combination and then performing it. We will create small groups (between 4-9 dancers) based on what we have interest in and who we think will compliment each other. Everyone who auditions will be placed in at least one small group. It is possible you would be placed in multiple small groups if you audition for more than one genre.

After the audition day, you will receive information about what groups you have been selected for and you can commit or decline at that time.

Available genres: Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip-Hop, and Pom

After the audition day, you will also receive your Dance Team Saturday practice schedule so you can plan accordingly.

 

Solos, duos, and trios

Dancers may also request to compete with a solo, duo, and/or trio. These will need to be approved by Mrs. Lauren and you will also rehearse these on Dance Team Saturdays once a month.

 

ESTIMATED COSTS OF THE DANCE TEAM:

*Summer Technique Class $75.00 for 4 weeks or $95 for 6 weeks due June 1

*$10.00 audition fee per dancer due July 17th

*Tuesday Technique Class $45.00 per month/level 1 class or $67.00 per month/level 2 class

*Solo monthly fee $60 per solo

*Duo monthly fee $30 per dancer/per duo

*Trio monthly fee $20 per dancer/per trio

*Small group monthly fee: $18.00 per dancer/per small group

***For (example if you have a solo, and two small groups, and attend the level 2 technique class, your monthly fee for dance team would be $145.00 (this does not include the required recreational class tuition rate)

*Costumes estimated $100 per dance you compete with

*Dance team jacket $65.00

*Estimated competition fees (please know these are just rough estimates based off of this current season’s rates and each competition is slightly different)

    Solos $150-200 per competition per dancer

    Duos/Trios $75-100 per competition per dancer

    Small groups $60+ per competition per dancer

*Just want to mention that we will stay as local as possible, but there could be some travel expenses to keep in mind.

 

Dance Team technique classes will start the week of August 17. We will prorate your monthly tuition cost for this month only ($22.50) due by August 15.
